Rebecca is an employment and safety lawyer with over 17 years of experience in legal practice and a genuine interest in the practical application of industrial law within modern workplaces and organisations. She leads the firm’s workplace, industrial relations and safety practice and partners with clients to deliver legal outcomes that make sense and add value.

Rebecca’s employment and safety practice covers strategic, complex and sensitive workplace issues, including complex employee relations case management, investigations and disputes. Rebecca is an experienced advocate in the Fair Work Commission, Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, Federal Court and other state and federal tribunals. She is routinely engaged directly by in-house legal teams to leverage their capacity and by senior and executive officers to find and navigate strategic solutions to complex workplace issues.

Rebecca has established a reputation as a strategic litigator and ‘go to’ advisor around the effective management and resolution of human rights, discrimination, bullying and harassment issues in the workforce. She is also a sought-after speaker and facilitator of workplace training for leaders and managers.

In the area of work health and safety, Rebecca’s advice is often sought in response to safety incidents and investigations. She offers valuable and strategic guidance to individuals and organisations in response to regulator action, most commonly in the form of responding to improvement notices, prohibition notices and prosecutions.

Rebecca values collegiate relationships and has been endorsed by her peers in the legal profession by being elected to the Queensland Law Society Council for two consecutive terms in the 2019 and 2021 QLS elections. Rebecca has also served the profession as a member of the QLS Industrial Law Committee, the QLS Ethics Committee and as a District Law Association President for two terms in 2018 and 2019.

Rebecca obtained a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) at the University of Technology Sydney in 2006, and a Masters of Labour Law and Relations at the University of Sydney in 2022.

Kirsty Augustine is a senior HR/IR Practitioner with 28 years’ experience in a variety of industries including telecommunications, State Government, Government Owned Corporations, horticulture, agriculture, health, aged care, facilities management/catering, construction, and energy.

Kirsty’s experience, qualifications and skill set make her uniquely positioned as a consulting HR/ER/IR partner for organisations. She is adaptable to working with management teams on operational people matters or working with senior/executive management on IR strategy, risk and mitigation for tenders, projects and/or the overall business. She is commercially minded and can quickly identify issues and assist management teams in mitigating people-related risks from pre- to post-employment. 

Kirsty led the IR function for a Tier 1 Construction Company for 9 years dealing regularly with the four major construction unions.  Kirsty’s passion lies in leadership and training and helping businesses realise their best potential. Kirsty’s strengths are in employment and people-related risks, as well as in providing business solutions to mitigate these.

Kirsty completed a Bachelor of Business in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations at Queensland University of Technology and a Post Graduate Certificate in Industrial Relations at Charles Sturt University. She has completed the Company Directors Course through the Australian Institute of Company Directors and sat on various Boards. She was appointed by the Minister for the Queensland Portable Long Service Leave Authority Board for the Construction Industry and the Work Health and Safety Committee advising and making recommendations to the Government on safety matters within the rural horticulture industry. Kirsty chaired the IR Construction Committee for Master Builders for 8 years and has sat on many other Committees. 

Kirsty’s recent accreditation as a certified Mediator strengthens her ability to resolve complex workplace disputes. She specialises in facilitating structured, confidential mediation processes that address issues such as interpersonal conflicts, bullying, harassment, and communication breakdowns, enabling parties to reach mutually agreeable solutions and fostering a positive, productive work environment.

Joanna is a senior business management professional with extensive experience working in key employment relations focused leadership positions. A strategic thinker, Joanna’s strengths lie in her with the ability operate decisively and effectively.

Joanna is a recognised workplace relations expert, having been awarded life membership of both the:

  • Industrial Relations Society of Queensland (2019); and
  • Australian Labour and Employment Relations Association (2021)

in recognition of her service to the field.

In her role with IRiQ Law, Joanna supports clients with their employment relations needs. Her understanding of business and its multi-faceted employment considerations has been cemented over her career where she has managed the workplace function at other business associations including Business Chamber Queensland, the QHA, and the Australian Medical Association (both in the Brisbane and Sydney offices).

Joanna is an experienced advocate in jurisdictions including the Fair Work Commission, the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, and the Queensland Human Rights Commission, and is an expert business trainer having delivered educational programs on a range of employment and workforce topics, including sessions delivered in Istanbul and Beijing.

In addition, Joanna is a regular guest lecturer to employment relations students at Griffith University, and is a member on the University’s ER/ER Advisory Board.

Christy has responsibility for a broad range of IR matters.  She is an intelligent and articulate communicator, with a reputation for delivering pragmatic and commercial advice, with an eye for detail. 

Christy has been admitted as a solicitor in Australia since 2021 and has since then specialised in Employment law, Workplace relations and migration. 

Christy has experience advising and representing Employers and Employees both in the Federal and State jurisdictions.

Christy is an experienced negotiator and advisor to local government in the context of bargaining for certified agreements under the Industrial Relations Act (Qld) and agreement making, from beginning to end. 

Christy appears in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission and Queensland Human Rights Commission in a range of IR matters, including discrimination, sexual harassment, bullying, general protections and unfair dismissal disputes. 

Christy qualified and practiced as a lawyer in India since 2011, specialising in mergers, acquisitions and private equity transactions for multinational companies investing in India.  

After migrating to Australia, Christy worked as a migration associate for a Migration Firm where she developed expertise providing migration assistance to a range of clients including large private companies and remained a point of contact with Department of Home Affairs.  

Linda is a Workplace Investigations Specialist at IRiQ Law.

Linda is a workplace investigations specialist with extensive and varied experience.

Linda is a former financial services industry professional and a retired police officer.  With her unique investigative experience, Linda gets to the nub of issues quickly in a professional and personable manner. 

Linda is experienced in investigating white-collar misconduct, misappropriation, theft and neglect of duties, as well as sexual harassment, bullying and victimisation.

Linda support IRiQ clients in promptly managing allegations of misconduct within their organisations, by developing tailored matter management plans to aid in managing risk during investigations. Linda is adept at building and maintaining rapport with complainants, respondents and witnesses alike, allowing her to elicit key information to inform robust conclusions.

Scott is an industrial relations and employment law practitioner of 20 years’ experience.

Scott has worked both in private legal practice and within various in-house legal and ER/IR roles at State, National and International level.  Scott’s experience sits primarily in the construction, mining and transport sectors, with further experience in health, aged care and financial services.

Scott supports IRiQ clients in designing robust industrial relations strategies, advising on management of overall workplace risk, and managing all facets of enterprise bargaining, including acting as both an employer bargaining agent and a process facilitator.  Scott emphasises the importance of establishing a clear long-term vision, and identifying the specific initiatives required to deliver that vision.  Scott engages positively and constructively with IRiQ clients, unions and regulatory bodies in pursuit of mutually beneficial outcomes.
