In this session, IRiQ Law provides practical guidance on conducting effective workplace investigations with confidence, fairness and procedural integrity.

The session explores when a workplace investigation may be necessary, what makes a quality investigation, and the key steps involved in planning and conducting an effective process. It also covers best practice approaches to witness and respondent interviews, common investigation pitfalls, and when engaging an external investigator may be appropriate.

Rebecca leads the firm’s workplace, industrial relations and safety practice and partners with clients to deliver legal outcomes that make sense and add value.

Rebecca’s employment and safety practice covers strategic, complex and sensitive workplace issues, including complex employee relations case management, investigations and disputes. Rebecca is an experienced advocate in the Fair Work Commission, Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, Federal Court and other state and federal tribunals. She is routinely engaged directly by in-house legal teams to leverage their capacity and by senior and executive officers to find and navigate strategic solutions to complex workplace issues.

Rebecca has established a reputation as a strategic litigator and ‘go to’ advisor around the effective management and resolution of human rights, discrimination, bullying and harassment issues in the workforce. She is also a sought-after speaker and facilitator of workplace training for leaders and managers.

In the area of work health and safety, Rebecca’s advice is often sought in response to safety incidents and investigations. She offers valuable and strategic guidance to individuals and organisations in response to regulator action, most commonly in the form of responding to improvement notices, prohibition notices and prosecutions.

Rebecca values collegiate relationships and has been endorsed by her peers in the legal profession by being elected to the Queensland Law Society Council for two consecutive terms in the 2019 and 2021 QLS elections. Rebecca has also served the profession as a member of the QLS Industrial Law Committee, the QLS Ethics Committee and as a District Law Association President for two terms in 2018 and 2019.

Rebecca obtained a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) at the University of Technology Sydney in 2006, and a Masters of Labour Law and Relations at the University of Sydney in 2022.

Terrianne Redman is a senior HR/IR professional with more than 30 years’ experience across public, private and not-for-profit sectors. She has held senior leadership and executive roles with responsibility for Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Safety, and Quality and Risk Management functions.

An accomplished investigator and negotiator, Terrianne has post graduate qualifications in Human Resources and Industrial Relations, and extensive knowledge of Australian employment law and industrial awards. She has applied this expertise to successfully resolve complex, sensitive and often contentious workplace matters.

Terrianne is passionate about contributing beyond her executive roles. She is currently a volunteer Board Member of Inspire Youth and Family Services and previously served on the Management Committee of the Industrial Relations Society of Queensland, where she remains an active member.

She enjoys working collaboratively to achieve strong commercial outcomes and is a natural creative problem solver. At the same time, she balances commercial realities with empathy and a trauma-informed approach, ensuring individuals are supported to exercise self-determination and are treated with respect and dignity.
